Presernve habit of letter writing: veteran journalist exhorts

Oct 15 : Veteran journalist T Kutumba Rao who released the inhouse magazine 'Likitha' of postal staff of Eastern Region of Andhra Pradesh today pointed out that the written word stays forever.Speaking after releasing the magazine, he exhorted all to cultivate the habit of writing letters instead of sending message over mobile phones.Lauding the efforts of the postal department for delivering letters for the last half a century, he said he had received more than 100 letters, written to him by former Prime Ministers Jawarahlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. He had also received a number of letters written to him by AICC President Sonia Gandhi.''A Japanese TV channel came to my house for these precious letters for their documentary film on letters of prominent personalities,'' he said.Mr Kutumbera Rao, who is also an entrant into Guinness Book of World Records for delivering the maximum number of public speeches, also recalled that people used to wait for the postman for letters as it was the only mode of exchanging information in earlier days.Post Master General M Sampanth lauded the postal staff for their efforts in carrying forward one of the country's biggest public sector organisations.
