Andhra Pradesh CM lauds Sonia for bringing popular initiatives for poor

Congratulating UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for being named as ''Woman of the Decade'' in an Online Survey, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah today said she was the one who courageously went ahead with the Women's Reservation Bill in the Rajya Sabha and got it passed by an overwhelming majority despite resistance from some parties.

The survey was done by one of the largest circulated Malayalam National Daily Group Mathrubhumi's popular women's online site mb4eves.com.In a statement, the Chief Minister said it was in the fitness of things that Ms Gandhi was selected by the women of the world on the historic occasion of 100th International Women's Day. Dr Rosaiah said, ''credit goes to Ms Gandhi, who courageously went ahead with the Women's Reservation Bill in the Rajya Sabha and got it debated and passed by an overwhelming majority. This is in spite of the stiff resistance by some major parties.'' He said Ms Gandhi was also named as the third most powerful woman in the world in a survey conducted by CNN.Applauding her courage, and conviction, in going ahead with the Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament which was in the cold storage for more than 15 years, Dr Rosaiah described her as one of the great women of the century who always stood for value-based politics the world has witnessed.
