Secretary Urban Development reviews JNNURM Projects

(PIB NEWS) A meeting to review the progress of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) was called by ministry of Urban Development, here today, Presiding over the meeting Dr. M. Ramachandran , Secretary, Urban Development stated that second and final instalment of the ongoing projects under Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT) will not be released if the Reforms committed are not completed as per the timelines. So far 520 projects under Urban Infrastructure Governance (UIG) Sub Mission – I of JNNURM have been approved at a total cost of Rs. 58041.79 crores. Under UIDSSMT 753 projects have been approved at a cost of Rs. 12234 crores. Out of which 102 projects have been completed and 84 more projects will be completed by the end of March, 2010. So far, the overall progress made in implementation of the Reforms under JNNURM at State and ULB level, is more than 50% of the Reforms committed till the fourth year. States of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have shown good progress. Representatives from the State Governments of Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh participated in the discussion.
